Prices For Fujifilm - Right Now

I have no head for figures, as the stock controller and accountant here well know...but I do try. Recently I noticed some confusing figures regarding Fujifilm cameras on offer so I thought I would set out the real deal right here.

Firstly - the Fujifilm company have a cashback offer going on right now for selected items. Bear in mind it'll cease on the 31st of this month - end of July 2015.

Currently they will pay you back $ 100 if you purchase a new Fujifilm X-100T. If you purchase an X-Pro1, a black X-T1, or a graphite X-T1 they will pay you back $ 200. Good deal.

Here's the current price you need to pay in the shop for each of these fine pieces of gear:

1. X-100T...................$ 1488

2. X-T1 Black............$ 1422

3. X-T1 Graphite......$ 1586

4. X-Pro1...................$ 888

The simple maths means that if you get the X-100T and apply to Fujifilm for your cashback you'll eventually have paid only $ 1388 for a superb camera.

Pot 'O Gold - The End Of The Rainbow Here In Stirling Street

Faith and Begorrah! The Little People have visited us...and left us piles of gold!

These are far more valuable than ordinary piles, and not nearly as itchy. These are piles of lenses, teleconverters, 35mm film cameras, and flashes made by Sigma and Pentax.

If you have ever sat worried about your inability to purchase a 1.4 X AF teleconverter for the Pentax system you can put your fears to rest - we have made adequate provision for you and your children and, quite possibly, your children's children. If the pile of Sigma 1.4 x teleconverters that we have in the special bin here shifts sideways and engulfs the customers we are going to need FESA and we'll all be in the national news. In short...we have teleconverters...

We have them cheap. Like all the other items in the Pot 'O Gold Sale they are $39 apiece.

I note in one of the bins that there are Pentax-branded lenses, as well as the Sigma ones. There are lots for Pentax mount, some for Minolta and Canon and one for Nikon.

Fell Off The Back Of A School...Canon Bargain

If 12 people have got $99 and need pocket digital cameras they would be well advised to come in and see us this week.

We've got a small batch of Canon IXUS 145 cameras that were destined for a school order but it never eventuated. In black, as befits dignified scholastic instruments, they feature 16 megapixels and an 8X zoom lens.

There is a little on-board flash  and a 28mm -equivalent wide angle lens. Complete with battery, charger, little strap, and complete Canon warranty.

You'll have to buy a memory card for it, but these are also inexpensive - photography never got cheaper!

Moving right along, art paper is the stuff you use when you have an image that is better than you normally make...and you want to celebrate your success with something that looks good. The surfaces are finer - some with texture and some with tint - and you can choose ones that replicate canvas. there are even double sided papers.

We have a special on right now with some Promaster inkjet papers. They are a different size than the average DIN offering. The boxes are 81/2" x 11"...also known as US letterhead size.

They are particularly appropriate for images that replicate the older 8" x 10" or 4" x 5" film sizes. Of course you can set out your picture area just as you like with modern printers and programs, but many of you will prefer to leave clean margins around your images  to make them stand out.

The stack of pancakes you see here is composed of Ilford Galerie Smooth Gloss inkjet paper - these are the A2 size.

A2 is perfect for the larger Epson printers - the 3800, 3880, 4900, 7900, 9900, etc, and I suspect that Canon and other printers that are big enough would be perfect. All it needs to do is print to 22" wide and away you go.

We wish that this paper stack would go - it is making it hard to see all the other Ilford papers in stock. Time to take action.

A Thursday Night Party - And Friday Morning After

I was not here. Dang. I wish I could have been here. But then I was there
where I wanted to be anyway...

Last Thursday evening saw a promotional night here at Camera Electronic for the Fujifilm X-T1 camera. This is the new flagship camera for Fujifilm that uses the X-series sensor and combines it with a top-quality professional system body.

As is the wont round here, there was food, drink, new cameras, and a guest speaker - Megan Lewis. I note that she has a wonderful eye for people capture as she has left one of her hard-bound books here; "Conversations With the Mob". She photographs widely in the indigenous community.

The Fujifilm night also featured bargains on cameras and lenses - Saul has saved me a flyer of the offers that were available on the night - and I have had a chance to compare it to the Fujifilm price I saw at a camera store in the Ginza last Friday morning. The heading image is the window shot I took, though I suspect that this was considered bad manners in Japan - certainly another store along the street had some nasty little signs scolding English-readers for attempting to record the prices.

This seemed a little harsh to me - people here ask prices all the time and then dive into their mobile phones to try to find a cheaper price to wave in our faces. We accept it philosophically. At least they are waving the phones at us instead of breaking off the conversation every three minutes to discuss the noodles in the food hall...

But back to the prices in Japan. Once I got back and looked at our specials and did the Yen conversion I realised that we were just as good value as Japan. And if you bought from us you got Fujifilm Australia backing up a legal warranty. I suspect this might very well be the case with other manufacturer's goods as well. The money and safety moral here is to shop locally.

I might also say that the camera stores and departments in Japan are fun and noisy, and in some cases as crowded as our floor, but sometimes they do not have any more stock than we do, and some of their stock looks decidedly...decidedly...well, let me just say that I know where the world breeding stock for really, really BAD camera straps is, and it takes a strong man to look on it without blenching. I had to sit down and ask for a glass of water.

Extra Goodies For A Camera That Isn't Here Yet

The flagship Olympus mirror-less camera to come is going to be the OM-D E-M1. We expect them later this month, and we will be trumpeting their arrival pretty relentlessly after they get here. That's what we do...

In the meantime, the Olympus people have announced that they will be providing a special offer for people who pre-order one. Actually it looks as though if you make a purchase of this new camera before October 31st, 2013, you become eligible for for redemption of ether a new HLD-7 battery Grip or a MMF-3 Four Thirds lens adapter.

The grips are perfect for easy handling of the cameras in the portrait orientation and the adapter means that photographers who have 4/3 lenses from the larger Olympus system can readily use them on the new camera.
