Pioneering Photo Journalist Eve Arnold Passes Away

Eve Arnold has passed away at 99 – a very good age for one of the most brilliant photo journalists of the last half of the 20th century. She saw it all – fashion, Hollywood, foreign lands...when lands could still be foreign without being bad. And her images stay with us – look on the net for some of her iconic images of Marilyn Monroe and Joan Crawford – of South Africa – of China. There will be images taken of Malcolm X at political rallies.

Magnum was her agency at first and later the London Sunday Times used her colour work to showcase the world.

She wrote that her driving force for all this visual expertise was “curiosity“. Perhaps we should all hope for just such a push in our own work.
