Jasin and Nikon Workshop

How did it all turn out? –  that’s the universal cry of the photographer. In the case of the Jasin Boland Nikon Workshop that was held at the Perth Convention Center on November 27, the answer is “ Very well indeed ”.

Jasin spoke of his profession and how he has been able to translate some of the glittering stars of motion pictures into advertising still photographs – with little or no preparation or set-piece work. His life on-set seems to be every bit as active as those of the actors, with the added fillip of instant dismissal if he does or says the wrong thing! It would appear that Hollywood is a complex machine that is either ready to collapse or ready to eat its employees alive.

Never mind – Jasin presented three stunt specialists who explained their work and choreographed a spectacular sequence on the lawn outside the convention center – there was never any danger that this would be unnoticed as the 40-odd attendees were snapping away continuously as the story unfolded. I hope stunt people get paid well, or at least a trade discount on bandages....

Workshops at the Convention Center are always good as they cater very well for the visitors. As well as lunch and a bottomless biscuit barrel, there were places all over the building where attendees could try out the latest Nikon professional lenses and bodies. Of course the day had to end with a quiz and prize draw and enough give-aways to satisfy everyone – including the CE staffers who were delighted they did not have to haul them back to the shop.

On to the next promotion day! I’ve asked if we could have intensive burlesque training with a side order of pinup but I am unsure whether the management is interested in art.
