The New Zeiss Portrait Lens

A few months ago the Zeiss lens division released the first of the OTUS lenses for DSLR cameras. It was the 55mm f:1.4, and probably the best 55mm lens for Canon or Nikon that you could buy. The Canon and Nikon reps may wish to strip off and wrestle the Zeiss rep in a mud bath to dispute this, but I shall remain aloof.

Well, they have done it again. We have just received the first example of the 85mm f:1.4 OTUS portrait lens. It is, surprisingly, a little shorter than the 55mm but a little broader. The focusing ring moves with equal smoothness, and the finish is superb.

We look forward to hearing of client's experiences with it - the ones who purchased the 55mm speak very highly of it.

Note: the 85mm focal length would be useful if you were photographing mud wrestling - you could stay back from the splashing.
