Nikon Announcements

I'm not sure about all the other Nikon users out there but the anticipation leading up to the Nikon announcements overnight was pretty high for me (Emily).  Was there going to be a D800 or a D4 or something else new and exciting?!?!

Instead, Nikon announced 8 new editions to their Coolpix range.  Don't get me wrong, it's not that it isn't exciting that there are 8 new cameras to the Nikon range but I wanted to hear about the DSLR range - we've been waiting for ever!!!!  Ok, rant over!

So, for those interested in the new Coolpix range here's the brief rundown.....

Coolpix P7100
This is the replacement for the P7000.  It will provide users with clearer, sharper images and less in-camera processing, meaning quicker response times.  There has also been the inclusion of special effects programs and HD video with stereo sound.

Coolpix S8200
Replacing the S8100, users will see an increased pixel count to 16megapixels and the inclusion of a 14x zoom.

Coolpix S6200
Oh the colours - pink, red, blue - take your pick!!! With 16megapixels, a 10x zoom, this small compact camera now has one of the highest powered optical zooms in it's class.

Coolpix S100
Successor to the S80, a slim-line camera that now includes a 3D photography function and full HD movie capture capability.

Coolpix S1200pj
Provides the unique feature of having an in-built projector that can be utilised with iPad, iPhone or iPod via a dedicated cable.

Coolpix AW100 and AW100s
The first in a new series of waterproof, shockproof and coldproof cameras with extras such as GPS functionality.

If you wish to know more about these new additions head to http://www.nikon.com/news/index.htm for full specs.

XMentors Seminar

We recently had the good fortune to have the XMentor team of Nick and Sharifa Ghionis and Rocco Ancora in state to share their vast knowledge on everything from posing photographic subjects right through to effective album designing.

The seminar series commenced on Monday night with a short "teaser" seminar - Shoot to Design, Design to Sell.  Nick and Rocco shared some of their wedding secrets while Sharifa was on hand to answer questions about album design and sale.

The full seminars kicked off the following day starting with Module 1: Posing and Lighting and then on Wednesday with Module 2: Album Design & Sales.

In true style, the XMentor team presented in a fun and informative manner.  They worked together with attendees to demystify some of photography's difficult situations, such as working with bright sunlight to create stunning images.

All in all, the seminars were successful and inspiring, presenting not only training opportunities for attendees but also the opportunity to network with Australia's premier wedding team.

What are you doing for World Photography Day?

World Photography Day is all about celebrating photography and remembering how special a photograph can be.

Today, we take our photographs for granted. But next time you're flicking though photos from your last holiday, remember that there was once a time when photography didn't exist. A time when those precious moments couldn't be captured, uploaded or shared.

On August 19th, celebrate photography and share your world with the world!

Is there really such a thing?

It really doesn't matter - there are not many events we can embrace as an industry to market photography to our customers.

So why not leap aboard and run a photo walk or event on August 19th!

World Photography Day can be as big as you want it to be!
